My Community

People participate in the life of the community:

1. What places—such as the grocery store, bank, or hair salon—do you visit? How many times do you visit?

2. What activities, such as going to the movies, sporting events, or dining out, do you enjoy doing in your community? How many times do you do these?

3. How do you find out about events and activities nearby?

4. Who helps you in choosing where to go and who to go with?
5. Is there anything you wish you could do in your community but don’t right now? What would help you make it happen?
6. What kind of help would you need to do community activities as many times as you'd like?

Version #2
Documentation
Step 1
Step 2
Step 3
Step 4
Step 5
I picked out 6 different activities/places from the questions of the "My Community" section.
I brainstormed 5 descriptions for each object. (Version 2)
I picked one description for each place.
I used Adobe Color to create a color palette.
I used Figma to design icons for each of the places by implementing a visual form of their descriptions.
Reflection
1. Main Ideas and Choices: How did you decide on the six main ideas of the survey? What about these ideas do you think is most important for your audience to understand?
Since the questions of this section are mainly about places people visit in their community, I wanted to illustrate the various places people can visit. For the audience, it is important to understand that the chosen ideas/words all represent places they can visit and activities they can partake in to be more involved in the community.
2. Icon Design Process: Describe the process you used to brainstorm icon possibilities for each main idea. How did you narrow down your choices and select the final icons?
To brainstorm icon possibilities for each idea, I imagined different objects/symbols I would see when I would visit those places. These are all common objects which many other people also resonate with these places. I narrowed down the choices to select the final icons by showing my brainstormed list to a few people and having them vote for the description which aligns best with the place.

3. Cohesion and Consistency: How did you ensure that your icon set is cohesive? What specific elements did you use (such as color, line style, or shape) to keep the designs consistent across all six icons?
In order to ensure that my icon set is cohesive, I used the same color palette for all six of the icons. The shape of the icons is also the same (square with rounded corners). Lastly, I used the same line thickness for all of the icons.

4. Audience and Accessibility: How did you address the needs of your intended audience in the icon design? What steps did you take to ensure the icons are accessible (e.g., using color contrast, simplicity, and universally recognizable symbols)?
To make the icons accessible, I created a color palette with contrasting colors. I also used symbols which are common and easy to identify.

5. Challenges and Adaptations: What challenges did you encounter in the design process, and how did you address them? Is there anything you would do differently?
For me, the biggest challenge during the design process was coming up with a color palette for my icon set. My goal was to use colors which would suit well for all of the objects I would be designing. In order to address this, I made a mental note of colors which are common in the different places and descriptions I have chosen, and I used those colors to craft a color palette.

6. Feedback and Implementation: What feedback did you receive for Version 1? How did you implement that feedback for Version 2?
The feedback I received for Version 1 was that I should attempt to use 2 objects in the icons as putting them together will narrow down the possibilities and make it easier to identify what place the objects represent.
